Our Story

Where Innovation Meets Environmental Responsibility

Our studio space

Who We Really Are

Look, we're not gonna pretend we're some century-old firm with dusty archives. Javelori Nexus started because a bunch of us were tired of seeing buildings go up that'd be environmental nightmares in 20 years. We figured there's gotta be a better way, y'know?

Based right here in Toronto since 2018, we've built our practice around one simple idea - your building shouldn't cost the earth to run. Whether it's a condo tower downtown or someone's dream home in the Beaches, we approach every project like it's gonna be standing for our grandkids to see.

The team's grown from three of us working out of a converted loft to a full studio of designers, planners, and sustainability nerds who actually get excited about thermal bridging calculations. Yeah, we're those people.

Meet the Crew

These are the folks who'll actually be working on your project. No corporate ladder stuff here - everyone gets their hands dirty with design work.

Sarah Chen

Sarah Chen

Principal Architect & Co-Founder

M.Arch, OAA, LEED AP BD+C

Sarah's the one who keeps us honest about the sustainability stuff. Spent 8 years at a big corporate firm before realizing she wanted to build things that actually mattered. She's got this knack for making net-zero buildings look absolutely stunning instead of like science experiments.

Marcus Thompson

Marcus Thompson

Design Director & Co-Founder

M.Arch, OAA, MRAIC

Marcus is our residential guru. He's renovated more century homes in Toronto than most people have had hot dinners. His thing is making old buildings work for modern life without losing their soul. Also makes a mean espresso, which is crucial around here.

Priya Sharma

Priya Sharma

Urban Planning Lead

M.Pl, MCIP, RPP

Priya joined us in 2019 and honestly revolutionized how we think about buildings in their neighborhoods. She's navigated more city hall meetings than anyone should have to, but somehow still loves the process. Her background in environmental planning means she sees the big picture.

David Ko

David Ko

Senior Project Architect

M.Arch, OAA, LEED Green Associate

David's our commercial projects specialist. He came from retail design, which means he really gets how people actually use spaces. He's practically a code wizard too - if there's a building regulation in Ontario, David's memorized it and probably has opinions about it.

Elena Rodriguez

Elena Rodriguez

Sustainability Consultant

M.Env.Sc, LEED AP BD+C, WELL AP

Elena's the newest addition but she's already changed how we work. She's all about building performance - not just making things look green but actually measuring results. Her energy modeling has saved clients thousands in operating costs. Plus she keeps our office plant collection alive.

James Whitmore

James Whitmore

Heritage Conservation Specialist

M.Arch, OAA, Heritage Specialist

James is our history buff. He treats every heritage building like it's got stories to tell - because it does. Trained in Scotland, worked on restorations across Europe, now he's preserving Toronto's architectural legacy one brick at a time. Don't get him started on Victorian masonry techniques unless you've got time.

How We Actually Work

We're pretty collaborative here. Every project gets input from the whole team, not just handed off between departments. It means things take a bit more time upfront, but you end up with better buildings. We'll level with you about budgets, timelines, and what's actually achievable versus what's marketing hype.

Our Approach to Design

01
Listen First

We spend way more time in the initial meetings than most firms. Gotta understand how you actually live or work before we start drawing.

02
Site Analysis

Every location's got its quirks - sun angles, wind patterns, neighborhood context. We dig into all of it before proposing anything.

03
Sustainable by Default

It's baked into everything we do, not an add-on. Materials, energy use, water management - it's all part of the design from day one.

04
Real Collaboration

You're part of the design team. We show you options, explain the trade-offs, and make decisions together. No surprises at the end.
